Taught by Dr. Mike Schaack primarily at his Lincoln clinic and throughout California, Mike also travels to various parts of the country to provide quality manual therapy courses with a Maitland/Australian based approach for the spine. Lumbar Course
Australian Approach for Evaluation and Treatment of the Lumbar Spinemore
The lumbar weekend course is designed to teach physical therapists the Australian method of evaluating and treating patients with mechanical lumbar spine pain. This course covers efficient methods of subjective questioning, objective manual testing and differentiation techniques pertinent to the lumbar spine evaluation. Additionally, manual treatment techniques, therapeutic exercises and home programs for the lumbar spine will be demonstrated and practiced. Lastly, case studies involving lumbar spine syndromes will be presented and discussed.
Upon completion of the weekend course, each student will have an understanding of the Maitland concept and be able to perform a lumbar spine evaluation using:- Proper body chart documentation
- Lumbar spine syndromes recognition
- Efficient subjective questioning
- Lumbar spine AROM testing with overpressures
- Neurological testing
- Resistance recognition (R1 and R2)
- Passive Accessory Intervertebral Motions (PAIVMs)
- Passive Physiological Intervertebral Motions (PPIVMs)
- Grades of movement instruction (I-IV+)
- Manual treatment techniques
- Appropriate therapeutic exercises and home programs
- Proper documentation
Cervical Course
Australian Approach for Evaluation and Treatment of the Cervical Spinemore
The cervical weekend course is designed to teach physical therapists the Australian method of evaluating and treating patients with mechanical cervical spine pain. Like the lumbar course, the cervical course covers efficient methods of subjective questioning, objective manual testing and differentiation techniques pertinent to the cervical spine evaluation. A multitude of manual treatment techniques, therapeutic exercises and home programs for the cervical spine will be demonstrated and practiced as well. Additionally, various cervical spine syndromes will be presented in case study format and discussed with the class.

Shoulder Course
Australian Approach for Evaluation and Treatment of the Shouldermore
This informative weekend course is designed to teach physical therapists the Australian method of evaluating and treating patients with mechanical shoulder pain. This course will cover efficient methods of subjective questioning, objective manual testing and differentiation techniques pertinent to the shoulder evaluation. Additionally, manual treatment techniques, therapeutic exercises, and home programs for the shoulder will be demonstrated and practiced.
Upon completion of the weekend course, each student will have a basic understanding of the Maitland concept and be able to perform a shoulder evaluation using:- Proper body chart documentation
- Shoulder syndromes recognition

- Shoulder AROM testing with overpressures
- Labral, subacromial and glenohumeral joint differentiation testing
- Shoulder instability testing
- Specific R/C strength testing
- Resistance recognition (R1 and R2)
